Julio S. Calvillo, 78, passed away on September 30, 2023, in San Antonio. He was born on April 12, 1945, in Charlotte, to his parents, Pioquinto and Estefana Calvillo.
Throughout his life, Julio embraced his role as a house husband, finding joy in taking care of his wife and children and ensuring their needs were always met. His compassionate and kind nature touched the hearts of those around him, creating lasting bonds and cherished memories. Julio had a great sense of humor and was known for his quick wit. He brought laughter and happiness to those lucky enough to know him. Whenever something needed fixing, Julio was there with his trusty roll of duct tape, firmly believing that there was nothing it couldn't repair.
In his leisure time, Julio enjoyed playing his beloved scratch-off lotto tickets, cooking delicious meals for his family, and watching game shows and old westerns. These simple pleasures brought him immense joy and relaxation. In addition to his many cherished pastimes, Julio found great delight in visiting the casino, where he celebrated in the vibrant energy and companionship. Julio's outings to the casino were a testament to his spirited nature and his love for life's simple pleasures. These moments added an extra layer of joy to his life, creating memories that will be fondly remembered by all who shared in his company.
A public viewing will be held at Hurley Funeral Home on October 8, 2023, starting at 2:00 p.m., where friends and family can pay their respects. A Rosary will also take place at the funeral home on the same day at 7:00 p.m. A Mass celebrating Julio's life will be held on October 9, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. The funeral procession will then proceed to the burial site, San Jose Cemetery, located on La Parita Road in Jourdanton, where Julio will be laid to rest.
Julio was preceded in death by his father Pioquinto; mother Estefana; brother Porfirio Calvillo; and sisters Isabell Cordova, Olivia Oropeza, and Guadalupe Serrato.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years Mary Alice Calvillo; daughters Clemencia Calvillo, Estefana "Stephanie" Calvillo (Joey Dominguez), and only son Pilo Calvillo; grandchildren Jade Romero, Evan Romero, Edyas Miranda, Brandon Dominguez and Austin Dominguez; sisters Natalia Cruz and Mary Alcorta (Ramiro); numerous nieces, nephews, and other family along with all those whose lives he touched. His memory will forever be cherished, and the impact he made on others will continue to live on in their hearts.
