Larry Britten Pryor born on November 15, 1943 to Charles and Jo Laverne Pryor. Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas and graduated from Highlands High School. After graduating he went straight into the Air Force and served as an instrumental repairman at the Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas. In Del Rio, he met Margaret "Marty" Marek, and made her a Pryor on January 10, 1966. While on deployment he was shipped out to the Philippines for temporary duties. Larry then mastered out in 1967 and in 1968, started working for the company, General Telephone and Electronics Corporation (GTE). In 1991, he accepted a management position in Jourdanton, Texas and settled. After 30 years of employment with GTE he retired.
In Jourdanton, Larry immediately became involved in many civic organizations. He joined the Jourdanton Chamber of Commerce and served as a Director and a couple of terms of Presidency. He also joined the Jourdanton Rotary Club and served as President there as well, and won an award for being an active member for 30 years. Larry was also an active in the Atascosa County Economic Development Corporation to help existing businesses and recruit businesses to locate in Atascosa County. He played a key role as a Director of the Jourdanton Library and Community Center Foundation. During five of those years, Larry worked to raise funds and be involved in their construction, while also being a driving force in the project to build the Jourdanton EMS Facility. Larry was elected and served in the Jourdanton City Council from 1997-2005, and served as the Mayor of Jourdanton from May 2006 - November 2012. Under his leadership, the new City Hall, Municipal Court, and Police Department were constructed. He truly helped with many projects for the betterment of Jourdanton, but as his health was declining he was forced to step down from these organizations.
In the early morning on November 11, 2024, Larry passed away due to his long term declining health. He was a diligent father to Cathy Jo Dow and Lorie Mae Pryor, a loving grandfather to Janet Nicole Dow and a kind hearted great-grandfather to Kiaya Anne Dow and Joshua Paul Dow. He will be laid to rest next to his daughter, Lorie.
Larry called Jourdanton home and made positive differences for his community. He was a loyal friend who always had a helping hand out for anyone. He was a man with many talents; enjoyed his many years of hunting, building projects, and especially playing poker with his poker buddies. Larry will be truly missed by this small town Jourdanton.
A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm, with a funeral service to be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, starting at 10:00 am, both to be held in the Hurley Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow at Jourdanton City Cemetery.
