Lela Elois (Boone) Palmer (82) formerly of Pleasanton, Texas, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, Leigh, surrounded by family on February 10, 2025. She was born in Poteet, Texas, to J.O. (Jake) and Genevieve Boone on August 30,1942. Lela was raised in Freer, Texas, and graduated as salutatorian of Freer High School in 1960. Lela attended Texas A & I in Kingsville, completing her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree in December of 1963, and graduating Cum Laude in May 1964.
Lela was hired by Poteet Elementary in January of 1964, teaching third grade. She lived with her Grandma Scales. Lela met the love of her life, Wilbur Palmer, in February and they married May 30, 1964. They welcomed their first daughter, Leigh Michelle, in January of 1966, followed by their second daughter, Audra Sue, in November of 1968.
Lela was hired by Pleasanton ISD in 1966, and there she remained for her career. Lela taught first grade for 11 years until a back injury forced her to resign. She returned to teaching in 1987 as the homebound teacher for Pleasanton ISD. She retired after 35+ years of teaching. In 2009, Lela was awarded Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce.
Lela and Wilbur also co-owned WALL'S from 1983 to their retirement in 2014, where they sold satellite systems, portable buildings, car covers, fishing supplies, pool supplies, t-shirts, and trophies. They also dabbled in the restaurant business, selling fried catfish and shrimp on Wednesday nights.
Lela and Wilbur loved cooking and entertaining, hosting many parties throughout the years for friends and family. Lela's favorite pastime was reading historical romance novels until late in the night which her granddaughters loved to tease her about. Traveling and experiencing different foods & cultures was another pastime; her favorite being Scotland and Ireland in 2017. In her later years, she loved shopping but as her daughters always said, she loved buying, especially her hats.
Lela was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Wilbur. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Genevieve Boone, her sisters, Mamie Moore and Barbara Tumlinson, brother-in-law, James Tumlinson, nephew, Tommy Lee Tumlinson, niece, Marty Boone Beck, and son-in-law, Paul Weden.
She is survived by her daughters, Leigh Arguijo and husband Dan, Audra Locke and husband James, and "third" daughter, Dee Ordner; brother, Oron Boone and wife Janie, brother-in-law, Clyde Moore, sister-in-law, Dorendia Watkins and husband Frank; grandchildren, Terra Smith and husband Matthew, Linzey Weden, Preston Weden and wife Brenna, Trip Locke, Cierra Arguijo, William Locke, and Micaela Arguijo, and honorary great-grandson, Otto Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by her loving angels, caregivers Becky Cardenas and Priscilla Trujillo.
Pallbearers are her nephews, Clifford Moore, James Tumlinson, Oron Boone, Jr., T.J. Gossett, and her grandsons Preston Weden, Trip Locke, and William Locke.

A visitation is scheduled for Sunday, February 16, 2025, at All Saints Episcopal Church, located at 1435 W Oaklawn Road, Pleasanton, Texas 78064, starting at 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. The funeral services will be Monday, February 17, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Hurley Funeral Home with interment following services at Jourdanton City Cemetery .
