Obituary

Linda Sue Ritchey left us peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the age of 78. She was born on October 25, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas, to Elmer Willeford Haley and Alma Lois (Humphries) Haley.

Linda was a beloved figure, and a life-long resident in the Poteet community, where she dedicated countless hours to volunteer service and made lasting friendships along the way. She was a proud member of the Poteet High School Class of 1965.  From 1966 to 1972, Linda worked for ASCS, however, her passion for education led her to a fulfilling 28-year career as a librarian with the Poteet Independent School District, where she touched the lives of countless students and teachers.

On February 17, 1968, Linda married the love of her life, Samuel Ritchey. Together, they shared 57 wonderful years. As a granddaughter of the late Reverend O. C. Haley, an influential pastor at the First Methodist Church of Poteet, Linda held strong ties to her community and her faith. She was extremely devoted to her family and friends.

Linda is survived by her husband, Sam Ritchey; son, Michael Ritchey (Della); daughter, Melissa Ritchey; grandsons, Samuel Ritchey (Drucilla), Seth Ritchey, Matthew Gomez (Cassandra), John Gomez (Ariza), and Christian Gomez; great-grandchildren, Colten, Riley, Blair, Ophelia and Jasper; brother, David Haley (Sandra); nephew, John Haley (Charity Cole); niece, Ashley Horn (Chris); and great-nephew, Demetrius Horn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Lois Haley; and an infant sister, Carol Ann Haley.

A visitation for Linda will be held on May 21, 2025, at Hurley Funeral Home from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, where family and friends can come together to share memories and celebrate her life. A funeral service will take place at the First Methodist Church in Poteet on May 22, 2025, starting at 10:00 AM. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Rutledge Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Heart to Heart Hospice for all the care and love they showed to Linda.
