Loretta E. (Lorie) Lamb went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 83.
Lorie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Kent Carpenter of Hico, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Lamb and Sara Cullinan of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Oren and Leah Lamb, McKenna Lamb, Ethan Foust-Lamb, Adrianna Foust and Bernadette Johnson; great-grandchildren, Gracelynn Lamb and Jayson Lamb-Higdon; brother, Gary Hays of Charlotte, NC; sister, Regina Williams of Farmington, WV; sister-in-law, Barbara Leuty of Kansas City, KS.
She was preceded in death by her husband William (Bill) Lamb; her parents; brothers, Lindy, Harold, Ronald, and James Hayes; and sister, Lorraine Carrol.
Lorie was born December 3, 1939, in Lumberport, West Virginia to Bernard Golden and Mildred Virginia (Criss) Hayes. She graduated from Grafton High School in Grafton, West Virginia in 1958 and then went on to enter the Army in Fairmont, West Virginia. Lorie's first assignment was at Fort Sam Houston, Texas where she met and married Bill. She was honorably discharged from the Army after her marriage and spent the next 27 years as a military wife. Her travels with Bill and their children took them to Texas, Minnesota, New York, Maryland, Okinawa, and Japan. Lorie and Bill moved to Pleasanton, Texas, after Bill retired from the Army and lived there for almost 30 years. While in Pleasanton, Lorie became involved with the Red Hats, The Republican Women's Group, and volunteered at the Thrift Store. She also became involved with rescuing dogs. Her passion for stray animals continued even after moving to Hico, Texas.
Lorie loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren fiercely and would always be willing to listen and offer her love and advice.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm with the family present to receive friends, in the Hurley Funeral Home chapel, 118 W. Oaklawn Road, Pleasanton, Texas. A graveside service and interment will follow at 1:30 pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas.
A celebration of life will be held in honor of Loretta E. (Lorie) Lamb, on December 16, 2023, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm, at the United Methodist Church, 400 W. First Street, Hico, Texas 76457.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Atascosa Animal Allies (1240 W. Oaklawn Road, Suite 101, PMB 195, Pleasanton, Texas or atascosaanimalallies@gmail.com) or Pets Are Worth Saving (PAWS, 820 CR 426, Stephenville, Texas 76401), or any animal rescue of your choice.
