Louis Carlos Sanchez Ortiz passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on April 30, 2026, at the age of 87.

Born December 29, 1938, in Poteet, Texas, Louis was known for his kindness, warm smile, quick wit, and deep devotion to his community, friends and family. He especially cherished time with his grandchildren and enjoyed traveling and sharing adventures with his brother, Ray.

Louis retired from HB Zachry in 1997 after 40 years of service. Throughout his career, he worked across Texas and beyond, including in New Mexico and Kansas, serving as an excavator operator, public works foreman, utilities supervisor, and estimator. His work contributed to major infrastructure projects, including the Granbury Dam and utilities installation at Fiesta Texas. Following retirement, he continued as an estimator consultant in the San Antonio area.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Adelina Fernandez Ortiz; his children, Linda Ortiz and her husband, Rick Harrill; Selma Ortiz and her husband, Jeremy Groner; and Louis Ortiz Jr. and his wife, Audelia; as well as his grandchildren, James Ortiz, Katie Harlan and her husband, Russ, Cheyenne Groner, Avah Ortiz-Harrill, and Tristan Groner; and great-grandchildren, Peirce Charles Harlan, Kurt Russell Harlan III, and Scott Davis.

He is also survived by his siblings, Ray Ortiz, Adolf Ortiz, Margarita Kittleson, and Mary Louisa Rivera. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erasmo and Eufrasia Ortiz, and his siblings Jimmy, Margarito, Jose, Juan, Ernest, and Minnie.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 11, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home. A Mass will be celebrated May 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church. A private interment for immediate family will follow at Wilborn Cemetery in Poteet, Texas.

Louis will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love of family, and the lasting impact he made on those who knew him.
