Mae Ola Page

March 19, 1928 – November 14, 2024

Mae Ola "Doodle" Page, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was called home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on November 14, 2024, at the age of 96.  During her life, she touched the lives of those who knew her with her nurturing, sweet spirit.

Mae Ola was born on a small farm in Yarrellton, Texas on a memorable snowy day in March.  She was the middle child of four female siblings and a daddy's girl.  Her father nicknamed her "Doodle" because she loved to play in the dirt with doodle bugs.  She completed high school and went on to complete one year at Texas Teacher's College in San Marcos before marrying John W. Page, Sr., her childhood friend and love of her life.  They married at the First Baptist Church in Troy, Texas on April 21, 1947.  The couple then moved to Poteet, Texas where they worked for John's father at Page's Dry Goods store.  Her husband was a successful businessman and jazz musician and they owned fabric and sewing machine stores in San Antonio.  As the old saying goes, behind every successful man is a strong woman.  Mae Ola loved, supported, and encouraged her husband for sixty-seven years until he died in 2014, and they were blessed with two children John, Jr. and Kathy Leigh.  Mae Ola spoiled her husband, kids, grandkids, and great grandkids through her kind ways and loving care.  She was a wonderful cook and her casseroles and deserts were holiday hits with all of the family.

Throughout her life, Mae Ola stayed active in church and dearly loved her church family.  After retiring, she enjoyed bringing smiles to area nursing home residents through her participation in Trinity Baptist Church's SonShine Singers.    Mae Ola developed longtime friendships at church, in her neighborhood, and with those she met while traveling with her husband to various music jobs and jazz festivals.  She led a busy life, but she was never too busy to spend time with her kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Nanny Page, as she was lovingly called, made sure they all knew how important they were to her and how very much she loved them.  Whether it was teaching them how to sew or how to play her favorite game Rummikub, taking them to theme parks and movies, baking their favorite comfort food, or just loving on them, she had her way of making each one feel very special.  The love, kindness, and sweetness Mae Ola showed family and friends is her legacy and will be forever remembered.

Mae Ola is survived by her daughter Kathy (Richard) Kline, granddaughters Tracy Page, Julie Page, and Shanna (Eric) Kenerson Cook, grandsons James Page and Blake Kenerson, great-grandchildren Madisyn Hubbard, Mckynley Hubbard, Draven Devora, Mia Hubbard, Trenton Gonzales, Ella Kenerson Block, and Carsyn Becerra.  She is also survived by bonus grandchildren Eric Kline, Skylar (Joseph) Newman, Kaitlyn McCoy, Zachary Kline, and Daniel Kline along with nephews E.T. (Kye) Page III, Tyler (Patricia) Barrett, nieces Carol (Don) Young, and Janice (Steve) Bradley Watson.  She is preceded in death by her husband, John W. Page Sr., her son, John W. Page, Jr., parents, Andrew Charlie Griffin and Clara Beatrice Matthews Griffin, sisters Thelma Rae Barrett, Tyler Lee Doramus, Nelda Charlene Ludwig, nephew Charles Mark Barrett, and step grandson-in-law Michael McCoy.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, Texas.  The funeral service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, 319 E. Mulberry in San Antonio on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 2:00pm.  Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to a church or charity of your choice.  Samaritan's Purse ( https://www.samaritanspurse.org/) was Mae Ola's favorite.
