Obituary

In Loving Memory of Margarita Reyes (Maggie) Benavides April 30, 1937 - August 23, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Margarita R. (Maggie) Benavides, who left us on August 23, 2023, at the age of 86. She was surrounded by the love and warmth of her family as she peacefully transitioned to her eternal rest.

Maggie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Inez Benavides of 60 years, her parents, Jesusa and Emeterio Reyes and all 9 of her siblings who welcomed her with open arms into Heaven.

Born on April 30, 1937, Maggie led a life defined by unwavering love, boundless kindness, and unbreakable strength. Her legacy is one of resilience, compassion, and enduring devotion to her faith, family, and friends.

A true matriarch, Maggie dedicated her life to nurturing and guiding her loved ones. Her wisdom was a guiding light, and her gentle words always had the power to comfort, inspire, and heal. She had a way of making everyone feel cherished and understood, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Her passions and interests were wide-ranging, reflecting her vibrant spirit. From her love of cooking, making tamales, quilting, and dancing, to spending time playing Bingo with her grandkids, and going on gambling trips with her husband, she embraced life with a zest that was infectious to those around her. Every family gathering was enriched by her presence, as she effortlessly wove together generations with stories that will continue to be treasured.

As a mother, Maggie provided unwavering support, unconditional love, and a home filled with warmth and laughter. Her legacy lives on through the values she instilled in her 4 children, Carol (Husband Homer), Donald (Wife Terry), Chrissy (Husband Matt) and John (Wife Cassandra), teaching them the importance of compassion, integrity, and the power of family bonds.

In her role as a grandmother, she showered her 14 grandchildren (Sonya, Lisa, Michael, Jaclyn, Amanda, Ann-Margaret, Matthew, Marie, AJ, Jessica, John Jr, Justin, Jules & Jordan) and her 21 great-grandchildren with affection, creating memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. Whether it was making a homemade meal or spending the day at the Flea Market, she embraced her role with joy and dedication.

Maggie was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Campbellton, Texas.

Maggie leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire and guide us. While she may no longer be with us in person, her spirit will forever remain in our hearts.

May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memory live on in the stories we share and the lives she touched. Rest in peace, dear Momma/Grandma/Momo/Nana.
