Marion Thomas "Dutch" Carson

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marion Thomas Carson on May 19, 2026, due to complications arising from Dementia, a neurodegenerative condition. Born on August 18, 1937, in Valley Park, Missouri, to Verna and Marion Carson, he navigated his formative years during the Depression era. During this period, he distinguished himself through active participation in school activities, excelling in the boys' choir, band, and as a prominent athlete on the school track team. It was during his high school years that he was introduced to his future wife on a blind date, leading to his marriage to Ruth Bourne two years later.

Marion and Ruth Carson were united in marriage on July 16, 1955, in St. Louis, Missouri, their shared birthplace. In 1954, Marion commenced his service in the Air Force, which ultimately led to his relocation to San Antonio, Texas, where he and Ruth established their life together in the great state of Texas. During his military tenure, Marion was awarded the Purple Heart, recognizing both injuries sustained in combat and meritorious service. Post-military, he became widely recognized for his professional endeavors. Marion "Dutch" Carson earned both his Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor in Law from St. Mary's University in 1966. He subsequently achieved a distinguished career as a defense trial lawyer, securing notable landmark cases. In 1976, following their daughter Cherie's high school graduation, Marion and Ruth relocated to Poteet, Texas, with their youngest child, Brent. This transition marked the beginning of Marion's concurrent second career as a rancher. He later served as a Municipal Court judge for Cibolo, Texas. Even after a 2007 car accident resulted in profound hearing loss, he continued his judicial duties, earning widespread recognition as the sole fully deaf presiding judge in the state of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Carson and Verna Siliven, his stepfather Ed Silivan, and his siblings Shirley Resetar and Ronnie Siliven. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ruth Carson; his beloved children, Brent Carson (Xenia Davies) and Cherie Carson; his sister-in-laws, Julie Siliven and Carol King; and numerous cousins, nieces, and close friends, including Jennelle and Bernie Tallerico and Elena Ronquillo.

Marion was a meat-and-potatoes kind of guy who was deeply devoted to his family and committed to providing them with an improved quality of life. While we mourn his passing, we also commemorate his impactful life and contributions to the world.

A celebratory luncheon will be held at Poteet Methodist Church at 11:30 AM on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
