Martin Herrera, 86 years old was born in Charlotte, Texas on July 22, 1937, and passed away at his home in Jourdanton on May 23, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his father, Pedro Herrera and mother Catarina Montalvo Herrera.  He was the youngest of six siblings.  Alvaro, Angelina, Alejandro, and Adelina all passed before Martin.

He is survived by his sister Aurora H. Regalado, his wife Aurora C. Herrera and his ex-wife and mother of his children, Victoria C Gomez, his four children, Pete Herrera and wife Anna Vel, Larry Herrera and wife Cristina and daughters, Victoria Barragan and Stephanie Martinez and partner Carolyn; along with seven grandchildren.

Starting his life as a son of a sharecropper to eventually purchasing 120 acres of land in 1973, he worked his entire life until his body would not let him continue.  Dad worked hard, and demanded the same from his children and wives. He loved to talk with the many friends and relatives that would come by to visit him on the ranch.

Martin owned a small store by the railroad tracks in Pleasanton, and worked many years as a butcher for Darby Brothers Grocery in Jourdanton, Bob Davidsons in Poteet and Ricks Grocery Store in Pleasanton. He drove a truck for Atascosa County, bought an Exxon gas station in Jourdanton and started his own meat processing service on his land in 1974. He, with our help, butchered hogs, calves, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, lots and lots of deer, elk, moose, and even a bear once.  We made pan and ring sausage, smoked hams and bacon and made jerky out of every imaginable type of meat, until 2006 when finally he could no longer carry out the heavy work load. He was an Honorary FFA Member and proud supporter of the Sheriffs Association and St Joseph's Indian School. He enjoyed raising cattle, hogs, and chickens and nothing made him more proud than being a land owner, but he was most proud of his children, who all developed successful careers of their own.

Martin Herrera will be buried at Jourdanton City Cemetery in Jourdanton, Texas.
