Obituary

Mary Ann Barta

"Perhaps they are not stars but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones shines down to let us know they are happy." Unknown

Mary Ann (Schrank) Barta, 86, of Pleasanton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. She was born on September 14, 1936, in Seguin, to Milton W. and Mary (Mollenkopf) Schrank.

Mary Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Evan; her parents, Milton and Mary Schrank; her brother, Wilburn Schrank; her sister, Judy (Schrank) Jarzombek; and her brothers-in-law, Henry Barta, John Jarzombek, Eugene Bohanan, and Guy Russell.

She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Barta; her son, Jeff Barta and his wife Staci; her grandchildren, Walter Mazur, Phillip Barta and his fiancé Caroline Vance, Veronica Barta, Stephen Mazur, Travis Barta and his wife Virginia; Dalyn Smith and her husband Alex; and Tyler Jones and his wife Lauren. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Charlotte Barta, Finnick Barta and Mason Smith; her sisters, Ethelene Barta, Shirley Bohanan and Nancy Russell, her very special cousin Jan Person and her husband Dennis, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved her family more than words can describe. Christmas was her favorite holiday because she enjoyed the decorations, the lights, the food, the Christmas carols and being with her family. Her favorite Christmas carol was Little Drummer Boy. She especially enjoyed watching everyone open presents.

Mary Ann grew up in Pleasanton. She graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1955. That same year she married Evan Barta. She worked outside the home and she worked in her son's business until the grandbabies were born. She loved taking care of her grandchildren and spoiling them. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, and she loved playing board games, card games and Chicken Foot. She was good at Scrabble.

Mary Ann loved spring when all the wildflowers were blooming. It would give her such joy when her yard was filled with bluebonnets. When the oak trees in her yard would start to put on acorns, she would check every day to see if she could see the acorns growing.

Her children called her mom, her grandchildren called her Mimee or Gramma, but she was especially fond of being called Great Grammie. We all loved her regardless of what name she went by. She will be missed.

"Those we love never truly leave us. There are things that death cannot touch." Jack Thorne

The Barta family would like to personally thank New Century Hospice, Dr. Michael Kurz, Nurse, Laura Villareal, and CNA, Andrea Chavez for helping us take care of mom after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. We also are so extremely grateful for the loving care that mom received from Dolores Lopez and her staff at Green Acres Retirement Living. We also want to thank Rita Gallegos for helping us take care of mom while she was still able to live in her own home.
