In Loving Memory of Mary Ann Glenn

Born on November 4, 1943, in the serene town of Poteet, Texas, Mary Ann Glenn's journey through life was filled with love, joy, and an unwavering dedication to education. It is with heavy heart that we announce her passing on January 9, 2024, in Jourdanton, Texas, at the age of 80.

Mary Ann, a beloved daughter, mother, and cherished member of the community, leaves behind a legacy that will forever be treasured. She was a woman of strength and resilience, known for her deep-rooted commitment to her profession as an educator, with the majority being at JISD.  Over the span of 33 years, her passion for education placed a burning desire to reach young minds, which included students who did not complete high school, and encouraged and helped them to obtain their GED so no one was left behind.

Beyond her teaching career, Mary Ann possessed a profound love for the arts. She expressed her creativity through writing poetry, finding solace and enchantment in the power of words. When she wasn't crafting verses, she enjoyed the challenge of Sudoku and delighted in the excitement of family game nights, where laughter filled the room.  She loved sports and found joy in cheering for both the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs.

Mary Ann's resilience was matched only by her quick wit and infectious sense of humor, which brightened all that were around and endeared her to all she encountered. One of the many chapters in Mary Ann's life story was her role as the former Choir Director at Jourdanton Methodist Church. Her unwavering commitment to her faith guided her path, and she found happiness in serving her church community. For decades, she stood as a pillar of strength and devotion, modeling the values she held dear.

Mary Ann's proudest moments stemmed from her role as a single mother. Witnessing all four of her children embark on their higher education journeys filled her heart with immense pride and joy. She believed wholeheartedly in the power of education and instilled a love of learning in all her children.

Mary Ann will be deeply missed by her children, David Glenn (Kimberly), Jodie Jupe (Vance), Kelly Sabel, and Nancy Ruff (Brad); brother Don Birdwell (Rosie); sister Judy James; grandchildren Zoe Glenn, Jadyn, Maebry and Kinnedy Jupe, Austin, Shelby and Jackson Sabel, Dani Mahoney, and Harlie Duran, Kassie, Kelsie, Kayli, Kristie and Karlie Ruff; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.  She is preceded in death by her parents Robert Wyman Birdwell and Evangeline Coble Birdwell, brother Robert "Bobby" Birdwell, and daughter Randi Glenn.

As we gather to honor her life, a public viewing will take place on January 18, 2024, from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm at Hurley Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on January 19, 2024, at 10:00 am at Jourdanton Methodist Church with burial in Jourdanton City Cemetery.
