In Loving Memory of Matias Uribe Carrasco Jr.

July 31, 1949 - February 1, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Matias Uribe Carrasco Jr. on February 1, 2024. Matias was born on July 31, 1949, in Poteet, Texas, to his beloved parents Matias Carrasco Sr. and Conception Carrasco. Matias was 74 years old.

Matias was drafted into the military (Army) at the age of 18. He was sent to Vietnam where he demonstrated tremendous bravery and resilience. While in Vietnam, Matias was an Infantry solider as well as a Sniper. His dedication and commitment to fighting for his county can be summed up into one word, Hero. Matias received numerous accolades for his exemplary service and bravery, including the prestigious Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Commendation Medal. His selfless commitment to protecting our nation will forever be remembered and appreciated.

After the military, Matias completed training for small engine repairs in lawnmowers from San Antonio Trade School, Motorcycle repair from Southwest Electrical & Mechanical Institute, and Alternator repair from Texas State Technical Institute.  Matias could fix anything and everything and he did. He loved being outside, getting his hands dirty and working with his tools. There was never a job that was too big or too small for Matias and he would never turn down someone who needed help.

Matias dedicated his life to the United States Postal Service. He worked at the post office at Lackland and Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio. Matias demonstrated hard work and dedication to the USPS for 35 years before going into his well-earned retirement. During retirement, Matias found the time to nurture his passions and cherish his loved ones. He enjoyed his time out at the ranch indulging in the simple pleasures of having a beer or taking advantage of hunting every now and then. When not at the ranch, he would ride his Harley-Davidson in town or sometimes hit the open road for a ride. He loved his motorcycle very much, taking the job of doing all the repairs and maintenance.

Matias loved being a grandpa, or better known as "Popo" to Mya, Isaiah, and Eliza. Relishing in their company, Matias watched them grow and mastered the sport of spoiling them. When not spoiling his grandchildren, Matias liked to satisfy his appetite for life. Along with his family, Matias would travel to Lockhart for some B-B-Q or grab some Menudo and Barbacoa from his favorite restaurant in town, Selly's. Matias loved watching football, mainly cheering for the Dallas Cowboys. When not watching sports, he also enjoyed watching any cooking show, Judge Judy, and Shark Tank.

He will forever be remembered as a compassionate husband, a devoted father, a doting grandfather, a loyal friend, and a true American Hero. His warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering presence will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.

Matias is preceded in death by his parents Matias Sr and Concepcion Carrasco; sons Adrian Carrasco and Leonard Carrasco; brother Juan Carrasco; and brothers-in-law Fred Garces and Willie Gonzalez.  He is survived by his wife of 46 years Elida Carrasco; children Matias A. Carrasco and Adriane Carrasco; brother Rudy Carrasco (Marie); sisters Maria Teresa Garces, Della Gonzalez, Sulema Caballero, Hortencia Galindo, Frances Huerta (Samuel), and Rosalinda Gallegos (Anthony); grandchildren Mya, Isaiah, and Eliza Carrasco; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will be held on Monday February 26, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the reciting of the rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home-Pleasanton.  Funeral mass will be 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at St. Andrew Catholic Church followed by committal service and burial at Ft. Sam National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Pallbearers will be Michael Galindo, Marc Galindo, Alfredo Caballero, Johnny Caballero, Rudy Carrasco, and Matias A. Carrasco. Honorary Pallbearers will be Isaiah Carrasco and Christopher Gonzales.
