Christine
Michael William Phelan, Jr.
September 13, 1963 – July 29, 2025
Michael William Phelan, Jr., 61, of Christine, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, surrounded by those he loved. Born in Bossier City, Louisiana, on September 13, 1963, Mike lived a life defined by love for his family, dedication to his community, and a quiet charm that made him unforgettable.
Mike lived in Christine with his beloved wife, Delisa Vrana Phelan. At the time of his passing, he was employed by TXDOT in Pleasanton, Texas. Over the years, he served as a volunteer with the Christine Volunteer Fire Department and attended Kilgore College after graduating high school.
Fishing, grilling, and listening to the blues were among his greatest passions, but nothing compared to the joy he found in his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, husband, brother, and friend who never missed a chance to create memories with those he loved. His grandchildren especially adored their Pepaw, and he relished every opportunity to make them laugh and feel special.
Although our hearts are forever broken, they are also filled with the memories and love he so willingly shared. His absence will leave a space that can never truly be filled, but his spirit will live on in every story, laugh, and song he loved.
Mike is survived by his wife Delisa Vrana Phelan, his daughter Jessica Phelan Christman, her husband Travis, 3 bonus children, Michelle (Sean), Zachary (Jennifer), and Kramer (Christy) Meneley, seven grandchildren, Blake, Laney, Luke, Hunter, Summer, Logan and Emma, his two brothers Chuck and Robert Phelan and their wives Michele and Kate, his sister, Kelly Phelan, his step-mother Judy Phelan, his aunt Chale Cabello, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church on Saturday, August 23, 2025, with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m., followed by the Celebration of the Mass at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Jourdanton City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers we would ask you to donate to one of these causes that Mike Phelan believed in. He was a huge proponent of Texas Public radio/NPR and would have conversations daily with his family about what was going on in the world. He enjoyed being informed and loved having a space like TPR/NPR to stay updated. And as we all know, the outdoors was where he was happiest. So finding a way to protect those spaces that he loved was tantamount to Mike. Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation will help to make this happen. We have also included the American Heart Association in the hopes that research can be accomplished for future heart patients like Mike.
We are grateful for the love that you gave to Mike. We miss him more than words can ever say. He truly was the heart of our family. We hope that you will help us celebrate Mike's chosen passions and give to one of these deserving organizations.
