Obituary

Miguel A. Faz, a beloved member of the Poteet community, passed away on January 15, 2024, at the age of 66 surrounded by his Family. Born on July 27, 1957, in Poteet, Texas, Miguel was known for his vibrant personality, unwavering spirit, and his immense love for his family.

Miguel touched the lives of many throughout his journey. With a mischievous smile and a heart full of laughter, Miguel was a dedicated umpire for 30 years in Atascosa County and the surrounding areas. His passion for the game of baseball was unparalleled, and his knowledge of the sport earned him the respect of players and fellow umpires alike.

Off the field, Miguel was an avid bowler and cherished his time with his Pin Busters bowling team on Monday nights. He enjoyed testing his luck at Kickapoo, sharing fun-filled moments while playing games of chance. Miguel's love of baseball began in his youth when he played for the Poteet Hustlers. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, his devoted wife Sylvia Faz. Together, they created a beautiful family and shared 37 wonderful years.

For 26 years, Miguel dedicated himself to the Pleasanton Independent School District, serving as a maintenance technician. His hard work and dedication made a lasting impact on the community he held so dear. Miguel's friendly and outgoing nature brought joy to his colleagues and the countless students he encountered over the years. Beyond his professional life, Miguel cherished his time spent with his grandchildren and at family cookouts. He was the life of the party, always ready with a joke to lighten the mood and bring a smile to everyone's face. Miguel's playful side emerged as he lovingly teased the little ones, affectionately referring to them as "girlie-boys." In his leisure time, Miguel enjoyed sitting on the porch, or watching thrilling NASCAR racing and passionately cheering for his favorite driver, Jeff Gordon, who proudly sported the number 24. With his genuine love for music, Miguel found additional joy as former security for David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales. If he was not working security, he was dancing the night away on the dance floor. Miguel was also a member of the ACTS family for St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church.

Miguel is preceded in death by his parents Abelardo and Felicitas Faz; brothers George, Santiago and Oscar Faz and Steven Mancha; sister-in-law Mary Mancha; niece Sarah Faz; father-in-law Manuel Gutierrez; brother-in-law Manuel Gutierrez Jr. and his only son Michael Anthony Faz.  He is survived by his loving wife Sylvia Faz; daughters Amanda Nykole Faz (Michael Martinez) and Rikki Robertson; brothers Bruno Bermudez (Bea), Fernando Faz (Elena), and Robert Mancha (Trini); sisters Bertha Faz, Ester Faz, Becky Faz Kendall (Bill), Delfina Ibarra (Rick), and Anita Faz Rodriguez; grandchildren Michael Martinez Jr, Jayden Miguel Martinez, Michael Faz Jr, Dominick Faz, April Faz, Anthony Faz, Aiden Faz and Xyilee Faz; and mother-in-law Margarita Gutierrez; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
