Minnie Zamora, of San Antonio, died Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the age of 87 with her family by her side. She was born in Pleasanton, Texas, on January 5, 1936 to Rafael Castillo, Sr. and Josefa Mejia.
Minnie loved to play Skipbo, travel, and spend time with family, especially her grandchildren. Her favorite destinations included Las Vegas, Disney World and cruises to tropical locales. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and telling stories from her childhood. Minnie was a very kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rafael and Josefa Castillo; her brothers, Rafael Castillo Jr., Rudy Castillo, Don Castillo Sr., Paul Castillo, Mike Castillo, Alex Castillo, Gerardo Loera, and Frank Loera; her sisters, Refugia Tijerina, Victoria Arguijo, Margie Sotelo, Mary Saenz, and Refugia Lambaria; step-sons, Rudy Zamora and Richard Zamora. Her grandson Jonathan Garza and great-granddaughter, Jaylee Gutierrez.
Minnie is survived by her husband, Liborio Zamora, her brother, Ernest Castillo and his wife Erica and her sister, Estella Garcia. Also survived by her children, Jodie Gil and her husband Ed, Joe Anthony Chapa and his wife Lois, Genevieve Garza and Annette Perez. Her step-children, Celia Ortega, Libby Rojas, Hooper Zamora and his wife Josie, and Roger Zamora. Her grandchildren, Evie Ramirez, Jason Chapa, Danielle Martinez, Kimberlee Taylor, Patricia Gil, Angelica Barrios, Ray Barrios, Jose Gil, Matthew Chapa, Ronni Perez, and Joshua Perez. Her great-grandchildren, Patrick Garcia, Brianna Garcia, Alani Garcia, Miguel Garcia, Chase Chapa, Olivia Chapa, Reid Chapa, Caroline Taylor, Penny Taylor, Charlie Chapa, Lilly Ann Chapa, Justyne Gutierrez, Kevin Rodriguez, Cameron Massie, Raymond Massie and Julian Martinez. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.
Visitation will be conducted at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton on Tuesday April 11, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a rosary recited at 7:00 pm. Services will be Wednesday April 12, 2023 at St. Andrew's church in Pleasanton at 10 am.
