Narcisa "Nancy" Cantu, beloved farmer, and homemaker, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. She was born on October 29, 1932, in San Antonio to Sostenes Martinez and Virginia (Reyes) Martinez. Nancy's gentle spirit and unwavering dedication to her loved ones and community will be fondly remembered.
Nancy found joy in simple pleasures, spending countless hours tending to her garden, nurturing life and beauty around her home. She was skilled in embroidery, creating intricate designs that reflected her creativity and patience. Dancing brought laughter and energy to her days, and she enjoyed challenging herself with crossword puzzles, always eager to learn and solve. As a farmer, Nancy worked tirelessly, sustaining her family with the fruits of her labor and embodying the values of hard work and perseverance. She was also a devoted homemaker, instilling warmth and comfort in her household.
Nancy's legacy lives on through her children, sons Jose Manuel Cantu and wife Maria, Ramon Cantu and wife Tammie, Rafael Cantu and wife Anna, Lewis Cantu and wife Antonia; daughters Beatrice Cantu, Victoria Cantu, Angie Garzes, Mary Jane Garzes and husband Henry, Virginia Pena and husband Roger along with 35 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Manuel Cantu, parents Sostenes Martinez and Virginia (Reyes) Martinez; sisters Viriginia Cantu, Gloria Martinez; grandson Ezequiel Rodriguez and Luis Maldonado; brothers Sostenes Martinez, Jr., Cruz Martinez, Emilio Martinez, Ramon Martinez; and great-grandson Zachary Pena Mancha.
Her services are Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel visitation will begin at 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A chapel service will start at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow services at St. Luke's Catholic Cemetery.
