Jun 29, 1934 — May 18, 2025
PEDRO "PETE" MOYA SOTELLO
Pedro "Pete" Moya Sotello, left us peacefully by departing this life on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on June 29, 1934, in Tilden, Texas, to Eulogio Sotello and Juanita Moya Sotello, Pete lived a fulfilling life, enriched by his faith and adored by his family.
On April 12, 1958, Pete married the love of his life, Gertrude "Trudy" Bustamante. Together they shared 67 years and raised five daughters. In the early years of their marriage, they resided in Campbellton, Texas, and later moved to Pleasanton, Texas, where they decided to permanently plant their family roots. Pete's early career began in local ranching, reflecting his commitment to hard work and community, followed by decades of service in pipeline, which required countless journeys across the United States.
In addition to providing for his family, Pete also served his church family in various ways including landscaping and general upkeep. In his spare time, he loved to hunt, fish, garden, bar-b-que, and watch classic Western movies. He had an extensive collection of John Wayne movies, as they were one of his favorite gift requests. Despite being a man of very few words, he was deliberate in showing his kind and humorous nature to others.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Eulogio and Juanita Sotello; and siblings, Juan Sotello, Beatrice Heritage, Josefina Gonzalez, Maria Sanchez, Alberto Sotello, Nicholas Sotello, Jesusa Beltran, Pablo Sotello, and Abelia Martinez.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Sotello; daughters, Norma (James) Garcia, Mel (Roger) Carrasco, Lydia (David) Benavides, Irene (James) Vaughn, and Janie Sotello; sister, Eulogia "Elodia" Lee; grandchildren, Anthony Carrasco, Staci Shives, Jacquelyn Zelaya, Phillip Vaughn, Saundra Benavides, Garret Vaughn, Lucas Benavides, Cody Benavides, Jamie Lynn Garcia, and Lennon Zamora; great-grandchildren, Nate Carrasco, Marcus Carrasco, Izaac Spain, Jacob Carrasco, Abigail Cantu, Brooklin Spain, Aubree Vaughn, Luke Vaughn, Caroline Vaughn and Luther Lang; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
As we gather to celebrate Pete's life, let us keep his memory alive by sharing the stories of his quiet strength and gentle spirit.
