Petra "Patty" Esparza Martinez, beloved mother and grandmother passed into eternal rest on Friday, February 2, 2024, at the age of 79 in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by family. Her memory will be forever cherished and will be remembered as a strong and loving woman, and the strength of her family.
Patty was born on December 4, 1944, in Pleasanton, Texas to Theodora and Placido Esparza.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Margarito Martinez, Jr.; son, Richard Martinez; parents, Theodora and Placido Esparza; sister, Maria Dominga Gonzales; brothers, Manuel, Martin, and Placido Esparza.
Patty is survived by her daughters, Donna Gerami and Anna Quintana (Ruben); grandchildren, Ramein Gerami (Michelle), Rick Leal (Kristine), Ruben Quintana, Jr. (Milagras), Kimberly Holzier (James) and Cristal Stevens (Travis); great-grandchildren, Anthony Leal, Reese Leal, Lux Gerami, Caison Quintana, Mikaylah Quintana, Jaxson Quintana, Leo Stevens, Josie Stevens, Jack Stevens and Nathan Stevens; sister, Mary Lou Orozco (Joe); brothers, Gregorio Esparza (Dolores), Thomas Esparza (Andrea), Victor Esparza (Terry) and Pedro Esparza; and her caregiver of 10 years, Gracilda Ramirez.
Patty lived in Pleasanton all her life. A retired nurse and proud of her heritage as a descendent of an Alamo Defender. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking for the holidays and family gatherings. Patty always looked forward to her weekly card games with friends, Pauline Gonzales, Mary Ann Rodriguez and the late Rachel Castillo.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, February 10, 2024, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, starting with a visitation from 9:30 am until 10:30 am, a reciting of the rosary at 10:30 am, with a celebration of mass at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Esparza Cemetery.
