September 25, 1960 - January 5, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Raynaldo P. Barrios, a beloved son, father, brother and friend, a skilled craftsman, who left us unexpectedly on January 5, 2025.  He was born in Pleasanton, Texas, to Rafel and Avelina Barrios.

Raynaldo, was known as Ray to most people.  He was a man of quiet strength and profound curiosity, and creativity: traits that accompanied him from a young age. These characteristics and skills he learned from his father that led to his career as a carpenter.  Some of his skills were applied to carpentry work at the University of Texas and home remodeling jobs.  Christmas decorating for the holiday season was an expression of his creativity, but one of the most creative decisions he made was to somehow make it look like E.T. crashed his bicycle into a huge, giant oak tree in the yard. If you get the opportunity to drive by his mom's home, this sight will surely cause you to giggle.

As an avid music lover, Raynaldo found solace in the rhythms of classic rock, country, and Tejano music. Dancing to Tejano and country music with family and friends brought him much joy before poor health took a toll on his body.

Raynaldo possessed an insatiable curiosity that drove him to dissect electronics and other inanimate objects, just to understand how they worked.  This was a testament to his desire to learn about the world around him.  As a child, before technology and the internet were readily available, he would diligently read the newspaper from front to back.  This was a good habit that was modeled by our mom every school day.

Perhaps one of the most extraordinary moments of Ray's life came when he was just five years old; he heroically intervened to protect a friend and stop a child predator, a defining moment that illustrated his innate bravery.  Justice was served.

Raynaldo is survived by his loving mother, Avelina "Billie" Barrios; daughters Angelica Elena Gutierrez and Eva Ramirez (Miguel Garcia); sons Ray Barrios Jr and Richard Jason "RJ" Helton; sister Rebecca Barrios-Garcia and her husband Rene; grandchildren Justyne Gutierrez, Kevin Ray Rodriguez; Patrick, Brianna, Alany and Miguel Garcia III, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Family and friends are invited to join us for a public viewing at Hurley Funeral Home on Monday, January 13, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM, where we will celebrate Raynaldo's life and the impact he had on those around him.

As we grieve the loss of Raynaldo, we remember a quiet, loving man who left an indelible mark on our hearts. He will be deeply missed, yet the loving memories we shared will continue to inspire us all.

Raynaldo was preceded in death by: father Rafel Barrios; granddaughter Jaylee Marie Gutierrez; grandparents Elisa Castillo, Mary G. Pena, Rafel Barrios, Sr. and Pedro De La Pena, Sr.
