Richard Anthony Niño Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 8, 1960, to Henry Castillo Niño, Sr. and Margaret Corona Niño. He was called home by our Lord on May 4, 2025, at the age of 64, surrounded by those who cherished him most.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Adela Aguero Niño; sons, Casimiro Castro III, Adam Castro (Josie), Richard Niño, Jr. (Angelita Flores), Jacob Niño'; daughters, Elsa Lara (Albert), Vanessa Niño; sister, Gloria Herrera (Victor); grandchildren, Albert Lara Jr., Timothy Lara (Andrea), Thomas Lara, Ashley Montalvo (Marcus), Robert Castro, Christina Castro, Michael Castro, Annalisa Castro; nephews, Alex Herrera, Brian Herrera; niece, Crystal Herrera; great niece, Natalie Herrera; 6 great grandchildren and numerous extended family and friends that he loved dearly.

Richard was a lifelong Catholic, his faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him through every season and challenge. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1980 and devoted 30 years of his life serving as a butcher at H-E-B, where he shared his knowledge and passion for his craft with colleagues and customers alike.

Richard was a man of many passions. An enthusiastic barbecuer, he embraced the BBQ pit with unmatched fervor, refusing to let even thunderstorms disrupt his celebrations of family and food. He deeply cherished time spent with his loved ones and made countless memories during family vacations and annual trips to Gardner. A dedicated fan of the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys, he showcased his abiding loyalty to these teams with pride. Richard also had a special fondness for Chevy trucks, always finding ways to upgrade and enhance his cherished vehicles.

In addition to his numerous hobbies, he had an unwavering appreciation for a delicious Mexican plate, enjoyed good steak on the grill, and would always relish a serving of Barbacoa complemented by Big Red soda.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM at Hurley Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM with a prior visitation to begin at 12:00 PM at Hurley Funeral Home. Interment at Jourdanton City Cemetery.

Richard Anthony Niño Sr. leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering spirit. He will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in eternal peace.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Margaret Niño, and his brother, Henry Michael Niño Jr., who passed away on April 7, 2025.
