Robert Lawrence Orr

Robert “Bob” Lawrence Orr Sr, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, in Jourdanton, Texas, at the age of 77. Born on July 20, 1949, in Lamesa, Texas, Bob was a prior proud member of the United States Navy, where he served as an Undersea Weaponsman and Ordnance Mechanic, earning the National Defense Medal and the Expert Pistol Shot award for his dedication and skill.

Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Linda Orr, who stood by his side through all of life's adventures. He was a loving father to Brandy Orr and her husband Brian Washington, Robert “Bobby” Orr Jr. and his wife Ellen, and Cody Orr and his wife Kayla. He cherished his role as a doting grandfather to his grandchildren, Shane Orr, Dylan Smith, Todd Smith, Jamyon Scott, and Meranda Myers, as well as his great-grandchildren, Thomas Moore, Eden Scott, Ethan Scott, and William Clinard. He is also lovingly remembered by his sister Sandra Norris; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Diane and Mark Winne; sister-in-law Maureen Leonard; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, Searcy and Retha Orr.

Throughout his life, Bob embraced every opportunity for adventure. He explored the lakes and rivers of Texas with a passion for water skiing, tubing, fishing, and boating, while also enjoying scuba diving trips off the Texas Coast and throughout the Caribbean, deepening his lifelong love of the water. His adventurous spirit extended to his career, where he wore many hats from a police officer in Austin, to a proud owner of a dive shop, Chevrolet dealership owner, and eventually his own gun-smithing business. Bob’s unwavering determination and tireless work ethic shone brightly in every endeavor he pursued and were passed down to his children. A compassionate community member, Bob served as a volunteer firefighter and was deeply involved in local governance, including positions on the Jourdanton City Council, as a former Mayor of Jourdanton, as well as a past dedicated member of the Rotary Club. His commitment to service mirrored his love for family; he became a devoted family man, prioritizing quality time with his children.

Bob’s legacy will be honored; visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., with funeral services at 12:00 p.m. at Jourdanton Methodist Church. Burial will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 2:15 p.m, shelter #2. 

Bob will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him. A proud patriot, he embodied the values of his country and his cherished Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and adventure.
