Rodolfo "Rudy"
V. Zuniga
Aug 23, 1952 — Aug 4, 2024
Jourdanton
Rodolfo "Rudy" Vega Zuniga, of Jourdanton was born on August 23rd, 1952, in Poteet and died peacefully with family by his side on August 4th, 2024, in San Antonio Texas. He was 71 years old. Rudy Zuniga was born to the union of Esperanza and Luis Zuniga of Charlotte, Texas. He was married in November of 1974 to Beatrice Trevino, and as a newlywed, he moved with his wife to Pleasanton. In 1996, he and his family moved to "the ranch" in Jourdanton where he lived until his passing.
Rudy dedicated his life to outdoor work with horses, cattle, welding, and taking care of the land he lived on with his family. There was much overlap between work and play, as evidenced by Rudy's dedication to team roping in his own arena, the hours spent training horses, and raising animals acquired by himself or his children. Rudy was a true provider, working hard to live the dream of owning and tending the ranch while ensuring that his family had the things they needed, including the financial opportunity to further their education.
Rudy Zuniga rode off into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, August 4th, 2024, with his wife by his side in San Antonio, Texas, after a 3-month battle with cancer. His sheer grit and determination enabled him to remain on the ranch, enjoying the view of his life's work until just 12 days before his death.
Rudy is preceded in death by his parents, Esperanza and Luis Zuniga, his brothers, Arnulfo "Nucho" and Baby Joey Zuniga, and his sisters Francisca Morales and Elsa Lozano.
Remaining to honor his memory and celebrate his life are his wife of 49 years, Beatrice Zuniga; his oldest daughter, Karolyn Hanus and son-in-law Jason Hanus of New Braunfels; his middle daughter, Kathi Garza of Austin; his youngest son, Kody Zuniga and daughter-in-law Luz Zuniga of Pleasanton; 5 grandchildren, Phoenix Hanus, Zachary Hanus, Adrian Mendez, Lila Zuniga, and Keegan Garza; sisters, Hortencia Martinez of Perryton, Texas, and Hilda Calvillo of Charlotte, Texas, and many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
