Roger
Gonzales
Sep 9, 1956 — Sep 6, 2026
Poteet
Rogelio “Roger” Gonzales, born on September 9, 1956, in Pleasanton, Texas, passed away naturally on September 6, 2026. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
Roger made his home in Poteet, Texas, where he became a familiar face to many. Known for his incredible sense of humor, he was a true jokester who loved to talk and never met a stranger. His light and love was always the brightest in the presence of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as they brought him so much joy.
He loved his routine of watching “Wheel of Fortune,” “The Price is Right,” and “Let’s Make a Deal.” He loved his three dogs—which he claimed not to care for, although he certainly made sure they were well fed and taken care of. Roger had a deep love for music, which often filled his home with warmth and laughter.
Roger is survived by his cherished daughters, Amalia Gonzales and Sandra Gonzales both of Poteet; sons, Martin Gonzales and his wife Leighann of Pleasanton and Mark Garcia of Laredo; grandchildren, Dominique Ramirez of Poteet, Izabela Zertuche of Poteet, Christopher “Shy Jaimito” Chagoya of Poteet and Nathaniel Gonzales of Pleasanton; and great-grandchildren, Aiden Lopez “Papi”, Azuriah Lopez, and Matthew Cepeda; brothers George Gonzales of Andrews, and Willie Gonzales of Midland; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Rosa Gonzales; brothers Gilbert, Valdemar, and Jesse Gonzales Jr; sisters Alicia Gonzales Rivera, Celia and Julia Gonzales, Blanche Castillo, and Elida Gonzales Balderas.
To honor Roger's life, a visitation will take place on September 15, 2026, at Hurley Funeral Home starting at 9:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest on the same day at San Pedro Cemetery in Poteet. Roger’s laughter, love, and stories will stay with us forever. May he rest in peace, and may we celebrate his life with the joy and humor he shared with all of us.
Pallbearers will be John David Rivera, Elijah DeLaO, Isaac Chagoya, Aiden Lopez, and Christopher Chagoya
Honorary Pallbearers will be Azuriah Lopez and Matthew Cepeda.
