Ronald Frank Sinks, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at the age of 89 on November 3, 2023, with his family by his side.  Ronny was born in Charlotte, Texas on Monday, March 5, 1934, to James Wilbur Sinks and Camelia (Latta) Sinks.  An only child, he grew up in Charlotte and often reminisced about happy times playing with friends, riding ponies, swimming and fishing in water holes, and spending summers with family on ranches.  Ronny received Christian Baptism in the Charlotte Methodist Church on May 18, 1947.  He married his wife of 54 years, Eileen (Martin) Sinks, in 1969.

Ronny began first grade in Charlotte in 1940 when only 11 grades were required.  After high school graduation, he worked his way through college at any job he could find.  For several summers, he was employed by the City of Charlotte helping to lay their first water lines.  Other summers, he worked for oil companies.  Ronny graduated from Texas A & I College (later Texas A & M University, Kingsville, Texas in 1955, returned home, and was employed by Charlotte ISD as a classroom teacher in junior high.  After teaching school for a year and at the young age of 22, his new career as an educator was interrupted by a call from Uncle Sam drafting him into the U.S. Army, spending his time as a military cook.  Ronny completed his 2 years of service in Germany, returned home, completed his Master of Science degree at Texas A & I and became junior high principal, high school principal, and finally spent his last 18 years as an educator in the position of Superintendent of Charlotte ISD, retiring in 1995.

Among activities over the years, Ronny was a member of the Charlotte Rotary Club, an officer and on the board of directors of the Charlotte Cemetery Association, and served on the board of trustees for the Charlotte Methodist Church.  His pastimes included flying his Aircoupe in his younger days, making pocket knives, fishing, managing his cattle business, and spending time with family.

Ronny was preceded in death by his parents.  Surviving are his wife, Eileen, his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Anthony Dickens, and two grandsons, James Anthony Dickens, and Luke Michael Dickens.

Graveside services will be held at Charlotte City Cemetery on November 9, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. under the direction of Hurley Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Charlotte City Cemetery Association or a charity of choice.
