Obituary

Sara "Diana" Guthrie of Pleasanton passed away on October 11, 2024, after a brief illness. Diana was a cherished member of this community, having served as the City of Pleasanton librarian for 22 years, from August 1993 to January 2015. Diana was a huge part of the Pleasanton Express family, where she was a dedicated staff reporter for a dozen years covering local ISD and city council meetings.

Her quick wit, humor, kindness, compassion, and unwavering spirit will forever be remembered in this community. Her deep dedication and love of libraries and saving animals were widely known and apparent in her many years of support and service.

Born April 5, 1953, in Austin, Diana was preceded in death by her parents, Ory Kenneth Guthrie and Athelda Maurece Holladay Guthrie. Maurece "Rece" Guthrie was the beloved, one-of-a-kind broke the mold office manager of the Pleasanton Express from January 1975 until her retirement in 1991.

Diana is survived by her uncle Paul and aunt Sylvia Guthrie, cousin, Ken Modrall, and many friends who loved her so much. She is also survived by her furry family members, her beloved dogs Penny and Nellie.  Penny and Nellie have lovingly been adopted by Vicki Eckert at Tri-City Animal Sanctuary at Diana's request.

Diana attended Tarleton State University where she received her Bachelor's degree in English and History and held a Master's of Library and Information Sciences degree from the University of Texas.  At the time of her death, she was the reference librarian for Palo Alto College and reporter for the Pleasanton Express.  Diana joined the PAC Community as an adjunct faculty librarian in 1997, working evenings and weekends, and remained on staff as a part-time librarian after retiring from her role as Library Director of the Pleasanton Public Library.

A viewing will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton on Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Diana will be buried alongside her mother and family at Rose Hill Cemetery in Cleburne.

The family requests that donations be made to Tri-City Animal Sanctuary at PO Box 194, Somerset, Texas 78069, or directly donate to Tri-City via Cashapp: $vle615 or to a library of your choice.
