Stephen Ray Hilburn

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen Ray Hilburn (Steve), a cherished husband, son, brother and friend. Steve was born on March 13, 1949, in Poteet Texas and passed peacefully at his home in Jourdanton, Texas on September 15, 2026.

Steve was a proud owner and operator of Hilburn Construction, poring his heart and soul into every project he touched. He had a passion for the outdoors, and if you ever saw him with his wagon and mules, you would know that he loved being part of the Old Spanish Trail Riders. Every year he looked forward to the journey from Los Angeles, Texas to San Antonio, marking the start of the rodeo season with friends and family.

A true character, Steve, was known for his stubbornness and infectious humor. His ability to joke around brought joy to those around him and had a knack for making people laugh. When he wasn’t working or riding, you could find him sitting on his front porch, enjoying music and enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

Steve is survived by his loving spouse, Debra Hilburn, who stood by him through thick and thin for 38 years. He is also survived by his two brothers Roger and Karl Hilburn, his two sisters, Pam Pacheco and Kathy Delaney, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents Raymond Hilburn and Eddie V. Williams along with his brothers Jimmy and Larry Hilburn.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Jourdanton City Cemetery, located at the corner of Waltom and Fig., Jourdanton Texas 78026. Family and friends are invited to join us to celebrate the life of a remarkable man who will be deeply missed.
