Celebrating the Life of Stephen “Steve” Douglas Lawson
June 13, 1953 – October 12, 2026
Stephen “Steve” Douglas Lawson, 73, of Poteet, Texas, went home to be with his Lord on October 12, 2026, passing away peacefully surrounded by the immense love of his family and friends.
A Life Well-Lived
Steve’s life was a joyful testament to hard work, deep faith, and a love for his roots. Born in Poteet on June 13, 1953, to Lester Carlton Lawson, Jr. and Mabel Eva Lawson, he was a proud Poteet High School graduate. He went on to earn his Bachelor's degree from Texas A&I in Kingsville, but his heart always belonged to his hometown.
Steve returned to Poteet alongside his wife, Sandra Lawson, to build a beautiful life anchored in the land he loved. For decades, he poured his energy into the soil and his community as a dedicated peanut farmer and cattle rancher.
Steve's faith was the cornerstone of his life. As a long-standing, active deacon at the First Baptist Church of Poteet, he served his church family with a devoted heart and loved God immensely. To know Steve was to know a man of vibrant spirit. He was the ultimate storyteller, capturing any crowd with tales of his youth delivered with unmatched gusto and vigor. His life was filled with music; in his retirement years, his home was constantly filled with the sound of him singing happily as he worked.
His Legacy
Steve’s joy and love live on through his family:
He is reunited in heaven with his wife, Sandra Lawson; his brother, Rip Lawson; his parents, Lester and Mabel Lawson; and his Lawson and Mangum grandparents.
