Thomas Leasel Edwards October 27, 1951 - June 11, 2024

Thomas Leasel Edwards, known fondly as Tommy, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, in Seguin, Texas.

He was born in San Antonio, Texas, on October 27, 1951, to Mary Finch Edwards and Grady Boyles Edwards of Leming, Texas. Tommy attended Pleasanton High School, graduating in 1969. Following high school, he pursued higher education at Southwest Texas State University, earning a bachelor's degree in education in 1973.

Tommy's career took diverse paths, starting in the railroad industry where he progressed from a train conductor to an engineer. In 1980, he relocated to Fort Stockton, Texas, and began working for Exxon, gaining valuable experiences. However, his true calling was found in education. Driven by a profound love for teaching and administration, Tommy earned three master's degrees from Texas A&M-Kingsville, dedicating his life to nurturing and guiding young minds through both teaching and counseling.

In 1977, Tommy married Patti Fisher Davis, and they shared 23 years of marriage. Their family expanded with the arrival of their daughter, Samantha, in 1982, and their son, Wade, in 1986, both born in Fort Stockton. In 1986, the family returned to Tommy's hometown of Pleasanton, Texas, where they raised their children, creating countless cherished memories. Tommy and Patti both embarked on teaching careers, hers in Pleasanton and his in Somerset.

As a father, Tommy was deeply involved in his children's lives. Tommy made it a priority to start each day by making breakfast for his children, ensuring they began their days nourished and loved. He coached baseball, spent hours at gymnastics practice, and cheered enthusiastically from the sidelines at football, baseball, volleyball, track, and powerlifting events. His dedication and support were unwavering, and his children appreciated his guidance and support, whether on the field, in the gym, or at home.

In 2014, Tommy met Heidi McCullar, and together they shared a meaningful and loving relationship in his later years. They married in 2015 and enjoyed traveling, country dancing with friends, and frequenting the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. Heidi brought great joy and companionship to his life.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Tommy was a dedicated supporter of the Fightin' Texas Aggies. Through his son-in-law, he even developed a tolerance of the Longhorns. Tommy found pleasure in hunting, golfing, water and snow skiing (in his younger years), dancing, and spending time in west Texas at the Woodward Ranch. Known for his captivating storytelling, Tommy was a strong man with a tender heart, entertaining those around him with his tales and warmth.

Tommy found tremendous joy and fulfillment in being a grandpa. He could often be found on the sidelines of a baseball or soccer field, cheering on his grandchildren with immense pride. He was a constant source of love and wisdom. He adored spending time with his grandchildren, playing dominoes and sharing stories with them. His only granddaughter held a special place in his heart, and he often reminded her that she was "Grandpa's little angel".  Now, as they navigate life without him, may they find comfort in knowing that they all have an angel watching over them.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Grady, and his brother, Jerry Wayne Edwards.

He is survived by his wife, Heidi Edwards; daughter, Samantha Hardin, and husband Blake; son, Wade Edwards, and wife Lauren; step-daughter, Mattie Turner, and husband Conner; and step-son, Aaron McCullar, and wife Elizabeth. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Hudson and Makenna Hardin; Carter and Grady Edwards; Parker and Griffin Turner; and Warren and Max McCullar.

A memorial service to celebrate Tommy's life will be held at Hurley's Funeral Home on Friday June 21, 2024.  Visitation will start at 1pm and service at 2pm.
