Thomas (Tommy) William Vickers took his final breath on earth and his first breath with our Lord on February 20, 2025.  Tommy was born in Jacksonville, Texas on March 3, 1946, to Hugh David and Olga (Brand) Vickers.  He spent much of his youth in Mt. Pleasant, Texas before coming to Jourdanton to live with his grandparents, A.T. and Myrtle Cain in 1960.

Tommy joined the US Navy in June 1964, where he trained as a Radio Operator and served aboard the USS Coral Sea.  While home on leave he met and began dating the second love of his life, Linda Schorsch.  Those who knew him back then, knew his first love was his aqua blue 1964 ½ Ford Mustang.  He was discharged from the Navy in 1968, and he and Linda were wed on June 6, 1969.

After leaving the Navy, Tommy began working for Texaco as a Transport Driver.  Over the next 31 years he worked his way up to Production Supervisor before retiring in 1999.  Over those 31 years, Tommy and his family would call home to four South Texas towns, including Corpus Christi, Jourdanton, Portland, and Beeville.  Before retiring, they came back to Jourdanton to be amongst family and friends.

While living in Jourdanton the second time (1976-1981), Tommy became active in the local chapters of the VFW and Lions Club.  He also volunteered with the Jourdanton Volunteer Fire Department and served as a Reserve Officer with the Jourdanton Police Department.  While in Beeville, he was involved in the local post of the American Legion.

Tommy enjoyed spending time outdoors.  After he and Linda moved to Corpus Christi in 1969, they took up saltwater fishing and Tommy was "hooked" for life.  He continued his pursuit of big Trout until he was no longer able to climb in the boat.  He also enjoyed bass fishing and trot-lining for big catfish.  His other passion was hunting.  Over the years he hunted across much of Texas for everything from Dove to Mule Deer.  The thing he enjoyed hunting the most was flint rock arrowheads.  No matter what else he was doing, if he was in an area that he thought had good potential, his eyes were scanning the ground.

More than anything, Tommy loved being around others.  He and a few of his oilfield buddies formed the BS Gang and would participate in area chili cook-offs.  Family vacations were often taken as large mixed groups of family and friends, whether it was snow skiing in Colorado, Disneyworld in Orlando, or lazily floating the Guadalupe River out of River Road Camp, more people always meant merrier times, and many a merry time were had!  After retirement, he and Linda did most of their traveling with her brother Pete Schorsch Jr. and his wife Barbara.  Pete was more than a brother-in-law; he was Tommy's best friend.

Tommy is preceded in death by his grandparents Algy (A.T.) and Myrtle Cain, parents Hugh David and Olga Vickers and his brother and his wife, Walter and Linda Vickers.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda (Schorsch) Vickers, and their three children; son Curtis Vickers and his wife Kari, daughter Karrie Yount, and son Michael Vickers and his wife Kari.  He was Pawpaw to six grandchildren; Alicen Tignor and husband David, Matthew Morris and wife Rachel, Caleb Vickers, Mallory Vickers, Kassidy Vickers, and Tanner Vickers, as well as four great-grandchildren; Justin Tignor, Oban Tignor, Blakely Morris, and Parker Morris.    He is also survived by a very large extended family including five brothers and sisters-in-law, 16 nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.  Among those are his brother's two daughters, Katherine Putnam and Melinda Carroll.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Jourdanton Methodist Church.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations should be made to either Jourdanton Methodist Church or Jourdanton Volunteer Fire Department.
