Verna Jean Hill Mohr went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 13, 2023.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Clifford Charles Mohr; parents, Vernon William Hill and Pauline Ruth Postert Hill.

She is survived by her children, Jason Mohr and Stephanie, Kristine Mohr, Beth Mohr and Daniel Enriquez; her sister Patsy Ann Thompson and Roy; her grandchildren, Nathan Ray Ramos, Lucy Jean Mohr, Madilynne Ruth Mohr and Samuel August Mohr-Sanchez; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Verna Jean (Jeanie) was born in San Antonio, Texas January 3, 1945, one day after her daddy's birthday.  She joined her sister and parents at the small ranch\farm 6 miles north of Poteet on a cow trail a little west of Highway 16.  The little ranch grew to a few hundred acres with cattle, horses, purple hulls, and hay. The whole family was involved in the First Baptist Church of Poteet, from playing piano and singing in the choir. She was a member of the Girls in Action or G. A.S. and followed this group all the way to college.  Jeanie attended Poteet schools from kindergarten to graduation.  A member of many school choirs, and in the high school pep squad, Jeanie spent all these years surrounded by friends. After graduation, Jeanie went to Mary Hardin-Baylor College in Belton, Texas.  While attending classes and being involved in choirs and the Easter Pageant, she and her schoolmates befriended a bunch of GI's from Fort Hood.

A friend had gone on a date with Cliff, Jeanie had met him and was not impressed.  However, in a few weeks and after more conversations they were a couple. They wed on September 16, 1966.  After graduation, Jeanie started to teach school.  First at Harlandale Elementary and then at Poteet Elementary.  Jason and Kristine came along in 1968 and 1970, by 1975 the kids were ready to start school, and Jeanie started her career at Southwest ISD.  She was initially hired as a Title 1 special education teacher.  In November of 1980, Lorna Beth was born.  Jeanie continued her education and received her Masters in Education from Texas A&I Kingsville, Texas.  In 1985 she became SWISD curriculum coordinator and head of federal programs.  Jeanie retired from this position in 2005, 38 years in education.  Cliff and Jeanie retired to the ranch, enjoyed their grandkids, and cattle, and traveling looking for material for quilts.

The family would like to thank the staff of Good Shepherd Hospice of San Antonio, Texas, and Devine Health and Rehabilitation of Devine Texas. The loving care of the staff members was incredible.  Jeanie was well cared for by all.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home.  Funeral Services will be at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Poteet with interment at Rutledge Cemetery following.
