It is with both heavy hearts and joyful memories that we announce the passing of Vicenta Guevara, a beloved matriarch, who left us peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at the age of 84. She was born on April 5, 1941, in Charlotte, Texas, to Jose and Antonia Ortiz. Vicenta was a treasured member of her family and a vibrant fixture in her community, especially in her church community.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Deacon Eusebio Aponte Guevara, her parents, Jose and Antonia Ortiz, her siblings Isabel Gonzalez, Petra Gallegos, Teresa Covarrubio, Ignacia Ortiz, Catarina Guerrero, Julian Ortiz, Frank Ortiz, Jose Ortiz, Antonio Ortiz, Jesus Ortiz and Pedro Ortiz.

She leaves behind a loving legacy in her children, Gerada Maria Guevara, Louis Guevara (Perla), Eusebio Guevara, Jr., and Juanita Guevara, along with surviving siblings, Lupe Olivarri, Tomasa Olivarri, Marcos Ortiz (Francis), and Maria Rodriguez. Vicenta also cherished her grandchildren, Kassandra Follett (Jason), Maricella De La Cruz (Jessie), Gabriel Guevara, Michelle Guevara, and Stephania Guajardo, Fernando Guajardo as well as her great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy, plus mom was a proud pet grandmother.

Vicenta was a member of the former St. Matthews Gualupana group and Spanish choir.  Vicenta loved singing which led her to be one of the members to play guitar for the Spanish choir.  Vicenta was known as an incredible cook at our local hospital.  Vicenta's warm-hearted spirit, wonderful sense of humor was evident through her playful pranks. Her love of bling led her to a retirement venture and hobby of creating beautiful pieces of earrings and bracelets which she gifted to family members. Yet, those who knew her also understood her introvert personality, her need to be quietly reflective, as she carried the weight of her experiences with grace.

As we celebrate the life of Vicenta Guevara, funeral services will be held on Friday, July 18. 2025, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, starting with a visitation at 10:00 am, a reciting of the rosary at 11:00 am, and a celebration of mass at 11:30 am.  All services will conclude at the end of mass. (ALL FLOWERS WILL NEED TO GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHURCH)

Family and friends can gather to pay their respects and share precious memories of a woman who embodied love, resilience, strong faith and rich traditions.

In this time of remembrance, let us reflect on her love of family, love of music and singing, thunderous laughter, and her faith in God that will forever echo in our hearts. May Vicenta Guevara rest in eternal peace.
