Obituary

Local Legend Passes

Wendell Napier passed away on August 20th, 2023 at the age of 78, at his home in Pleasanton, Texas. Known for his hard work, dedication, kind heart, and selflessness, Wendell Napier will be deeply missed within the community that lovingly recognized his '65 Chevy Car Hauler strolling through town, jokingly called him "Ventana Ventana," and depended on his car expertise, handy-work, and philanthropy in times of need.

Wendell was born into the arms of Pat and Ida Napier on August 7th, 1945 in Brush Creek, West Virginia. Here he grew into an honest, light-hearted, funny young man with an unending love for others. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War (June 18th, 1964 - June 15th, 1967) and was stationed in Germany as a Clerk Specialist. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Expert Rifle Badge.

As a jack of all trades, Wendell could go from being a precise jeweler, scrap metal dealer, master mechanic, aviation mechanic, and car dealer but most importantly, he shined as a Volkswagen reviver, antique car surgeon and healer! The task was never too tall and the blood, sweat, and tears he poured into his craft with his strong and willing hands, was quite remarkable.

Wendell was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ida and Pat Napier Jr., son, Wendell Martin Napier, first wife and mother to his children, Eve Napier, and second wife, Selma Castillo.

He is survived by his loving children, Kenneth Wendell Napier ("Little Wendell") and his wife Jenni Napier of Pleasanton, TX; Glen Napier and Diane Napier of San Antonio, TX; William Napier of San Antonio, TX. and Christal Thompson of San Antonio, TX. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Scott Napier, Laura Napier Cortez, Michael Thompson, and Nicholas Napier; four beautiful great-grandchildren; his beloved brothers, Garland Napier and his wife Ruby Napier and Leonard Napier and his wife Patricia Napier of West Virginia, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Wendell was a father, brother, husband, son, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He never met a stranger and he genuinely cared for humanity.

The news of Wendell's homegoing spread like wildfire across the Texas hill country and up through the stately mountains of West Virginia. He was a legend and what a legacy he has left behind. His work is no longer almost done; his work is finally finished.
