William Albert Herbst of McCoy passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023, at the age of 80.  He was born in San Antonio on March 1, 1942, to Walter and Martha (Heck) Herbst.

He was the only boy out of six children. Graduated from Pleasanton High and went to college two years. He was drafted into the army and upon completing his service he married his wife of 54 years, Susan. They had three children: Lisa, Beth, and Warren. He spent 50 years doing what he loved, farming and ranching. In his spare time fishing and hunting was his passion. William served 20 plus years on Atascosa County Soil & Water Conservation District. Later in life he got to enjoy his grandchildren and great grandchildren. William was a hard-working man, that was dedicated to his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Susan Gayle Herbst; parents, Walter and Martha Herbst, and sisters, Helen Herbst and Wally Herbst.

William is survived by his children, Lisa Herbst, Beth Herbst Esquivel and husband Chris and Warren Herbst and wife Carolyn; grandchildren, Justin McCauley and wife Kassi, Aaron Nadeau, Madison Herbst, Caydee Herbst, and Aidan Burns; great-grandchildren, Jett Pounders, Jace McCauley, Jayna McCauley, and Jessa McCauley.  He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Ann May and husband Robert, Willie Mae Jasik and husband John, and Shirley Adams; sister in law, Jeanine Hutcheson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be conducted at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton on Friday, January 6, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with family receiving friends from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.  A graveside service, led by Pastor Albert Byrom, will be at Campbellton City Cemetery on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 10:30 am.  Pallbearers for William's service will be Justin McCauley, Chris Esquivel, Joe Weigang, Kevin Heirholzer, Ken Heirholzer and Jay Korus.

The family would like to invite family and friends for a meal and fellowship at the Campbellton Hall, following the graveside service.
