Willie Mae Leija

September 21, 1939 - April 8, 2026

Willie Mae Leija of San Antonio passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the age of 86. She was born in Campbellton on September 21, 1939, to Willie Ray and Sophie (Gutierrez) Cavitt.

Willie was known for her deep love of family. She cherished her children and found great joy in making memories with her grandchildren.

Willie was a free spirit at heart, embracing opportunities to travel. Her enthusiasm for exploring new places reflected her adventurous nature. In her downtime, you could find her enjoying old westerns and cowboy movies, a passion she carried throughout her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Venesa Sokolovic (Ben); sons, Jesus Mauro Leija (Marisol) and Michael Markos Leija (Leysa); grandchildren, Victoria Richetti (Mario), Mauro Michael Medrando (Abigail), Alex Leija, Lucius Sokolovic, Cassius Sokolovic, Olyvea Leija, Isabella Leija, Michael Leija and Jayven Leija; and brother Thomas Cavitt (Elizabeth).

Willie was preceded in death by her parents.

Services are scheduled for Friday, April 17, 2026 at St. Luke Catholic Church. located at 4603 Manitou Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78228, starting with a visitation at 8:30 am, reciting of the rosary at 9:30 am and a celebration of mass at 10:00 am.  A graveside service will be held at Campbellton City Cemetery starting at 3:00 pm.

Directions to Campbellton City Cemetery: Take the Campbellton/alternative 281 exit off IH 37 South. Travel approximately 1.5 miles. Right before you get into town, you will see county road 791. Make a left on County road 791. About 1 mile, the Campbellton Cemetery will be on your left on top of a hill overlooking 1-37 South freeway.
